HMI Trainer
Fluent in their system. Ready for yours.
International recruits arrive fluent in their own system, then spend day one feeling like imposters on yours. Our twenty-hour program takes them from zero to conversant, so their first week validates what they already know.
THE HMI FLUENCY JOURNEY
Three layers. One familiar system by day one.
Build from direct actions to the system’s deeper options, then demonstrate recall without hints.

PROCESS STEP
Start before conversion
Give recruits access before conversion, replacing or reducing reliance on the long system manual.
Modules introduce no more than five new concepts at a time, in shuffled order.
Each layer covers all 30 components. Correct-answer streaks establish consistency before the final test removes the support.
The problem
International recruits arrive fluent in their own system, then get handed a three-hundred-and-fifty-page document that reads like a software test script. Left-click this, you'll see that, select that. After a day or two they report feeling like frauds — unable to use the system while trying to demonstrate the skills they've relied on their whole career at another ANSP.
What it is
The HMI Trainer is a twenty-hour program that replaces the manual with structured fluency building. It teaches no more than five new concepts per module, in shuffled order so you're never repeating the same sequence. You need streaks of four correct to pass a module and five in a row to be deemed fluent, then you sit a timed test with no reference access.
How it works
Complexity comes in three layers — shallow, medium, and deep. Shallow is the most direct path, like left-clicking the CFL to open a dropdown and select a level. Medium adds qualifiers, such as assigning a block level or flying visual. Deep is the system's weird corners, like typing a custom flight level that isn't on the dropdown by opening the flight plan instead. You complete all thirty components at shallow, sit a test, then medium, then deep, then a final five-minute completion test where every option can come up and pills are gone — pure recall.
The hint pills
At each level the pills update to give more depth and reference material aligned to that complexity. They support you while you learn, then disappear for the final exam.
The outcome
On day one of conversion, recruits are validating things they've already learned rather than throwing up objections to how the new system does things. They stop feeling like imposters and start sounding like the controllers they already are.
